Structural Project Engineer

R2T, Inc. is accepting applications for an experienced Structural Project Engineer to join our growing engineering group in Atlanta, Ga. Typical assignments will entail completion of structural engineering discipline related tasks associated with all facets of municipal water, wastewater, and storm water related projects from planning, designing, and overseeing construction.

Specific responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Researches and develops sound technical solutions to address building and structural concerns associated with water, wastewater, and storm water related facilities and structures.
  • Develops scopes of work and engages with management staff during proposal development.
  • Prepares bid documents, drawings/specifications, addenda, change orders, investigation reports, and other work product as required of the scope.

  • Team player, a professional who is eager to collaborate and communicate with R2T colleagues company-wide. Must have ability to interface with other disciplines such as process, civil and mechanical on projects.

Senior Structural Engineer- (Office located in Kennesaw, GA)
As a member of a multi-disciplined engineering team, the successful candidate will function as a hands-on engineer providing structural engineering analysis and design for a wide variety of industrial facilities structures. Most industrial clients will be in the food and beverage, chemical and pulp and paper industries. Candidate will direct the work of CAD designers in production of design calculations reports and For-Construction plans and specifications for industrial projects and serve as Engineer of Record for such projects.

Candidate will interface with clients to review needs, develop designs, provide project status, and deliver design packages. Candidate will conduct site visits to industrial facilities for information gathering and field measurements and sketches. Some projects may require work at height and work near hazardous chemicals. Common types of structures being designed include concrete foundations (spread footings, slabs-on-grade, mats, tank containments, auger piles, drilled piles), pavements (rigid and flexible), concrete and masonry walls, structural steel frames for buildings, equipment supports, pipe supports and racks, worker access platforms, stairs and ladders, light gauge steel framing and trusses, bar joists and decking systems, worker guarding and fall protection systems, and hoisting systems (monorails, bridge cranes, jib cranes, winches). A working understanding of the building envelope for weather tightness and thermal insulation is preferred.

BSCE required. Must have a Professional Engineering license by examination in at least one State.

Proficient knowledge of building codes, OSHA regulations and national standards for civil engineering materials (concrete, steel, masonry, aluminum) is required. Candidate must develop appropriate loading conditions based on ASCE 7, engineering judgment, and vendor information for gravity, wind, seismic, snow and vibratory loadings. Experience with regulatory policies and requirements for chemical storage and piping systems (ASME, API, DEP, EPA) is preferred. Experience with jurisdictional requirements for zoning and permitting, plans examination, and DOT roadways and railways is preferred.

  • Investigates residential and commercial sites to determine the cause and origin of structural failures, damages or defects.
  • Analyzes damages due to catastrophes such as windstorm damage, hail damage, hurricanes, floods and earthquakes.
  • Prepares accurate, clear, thorough, and concise reports and letters outlining the cause and origin of the damages to clients. Follows established policies, procedures, and processes in preparing information, exercising sound judgment in applying these to potentially unusual or complicated situations, and submit reports and documents in a timely manner and in accordance with client's standards and expectations.
  • Interacts with clients on a regular basis, including marketing of services when not directly working on a job.
  • Provides expert testimony in a court of law if required.
  • Perform marketing meetings with various clients.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is required. MS in Structural Engineering is a plus.
  • Skills in analyzing, interpreting, synthesizing, prioritizing, and reporting pertinent information, discerning the essential from the non-essential, and grasping complexities of unusual or complicated cases; research and investigative abilities
  • Significant experience (typically 6 - 10 years) as a design/structural engineer (residential, industrial and commercial buildings).
