Event Recap

Our December Holiday Social brought members together at Wild Heaven Beer and Fox Bros Bar‑B‑Q for an evening of good food, easy conversation, and a recap of the 2025 NCSEA Summit. It was a welcome pause in the holiday rush and a chance to reconnect, share takeaways from the national conference, and close out the year with our SEAOG community.

SE3 Update
SPEED MENTORING!
The SEAOG SE3 Mentorship Program works to offer younger engineers opportunities to meet with more experienced professionals. These programs encourage open and honest dialogue, and help individuals to define their career goals, to identify roadblocks, and to take ownership of their own growth and development. They also allow current and future leaders an opportunity to share practical insights and to improve their leadership proficiency.
Traditional mentoring consists of a developmental relationship between a mentor, a individual with professional experience, skills and knowledge, and a protégé, who is less experienced or skilled. This relationship may take the form of non-threatening training, coaching, supporting, discussing, and/or counseling, across time and work contexts.
Speed mentoring is a one-time meeting or discussion that enables an individual to learn and seek guidance from someone with more experience and knowledge. The purpose of speed mentoring is to provide a valuable learning opportunity for less experienced individuals while requiring limited commitment of time and resources from more experienced individuals serving as mentors.
SPEED MENTORING is a dynamic twist on traditional mentoring. It’s meant to be short term but powerful…like an espresso shot for professional growth – compact and intense. Three to five, 15 minute long sessions for mentees to ask questions.
If you're interested in participating as a mentor or mentee, register here.
SEAOG and SE3 would like to thank the NCSEA Foundation Grant program for their support of this event!
Publicity Committee Update
RECAP
On December 19th, SEAOG attended STEM Day at River Eves Elementary for the second year in a row. The 2nd and 4th graders had a blast learning about forces and loads, especially wind and seismic loads. They asked some very unique and creative questions and loved the demonstrations with the MOLA models we’d brought. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
