Event Recap

Speed Mentoring Event

Structural engineers from our community gathered at Maggiano's Perimeter on February 11 for an evening of mentoring and networking. A huge thank you to our mentors for volunteering their time and sharing their experience and expertise, and to the mentees for coming prepared with thoughtful questions. The energy in the room made for a genuinely great event.
Speed Mentoring is a dynamic twist on traditional mentoring.  It’s meant to be short term but powerful, like an espresso shot for professional growth – compact and intense.  Mentees rotate through multiple 10-15 minute sessions, giving them the chance to connect with several mentors and gather a range of perspectives in a small and focused forum.
Thanks to the NCSEA Foundation Grant program for their support of SEAOG and SE3 Committee for this event.

Alpine Virtual Presentation

Thank you to those who attended the CFS Truss 101 seminar presented by Alpine TrusSteel and a big thank you to Alpine for presenting and being a SEAOG sponsor. Stay tuned for details on upcoming CFS truss plant tour in Dublin, GA in March.

Upcoming Events

SEAOG Virtual Presentation | Recent Updates to Flood-Resistant Design Standards

Matt Gilbertson, Senior Technical Manager at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, will be presenting on the recent updates to flood-resistant design standards in ASCE 7-22 supplement 2 and ASCE 24-24. This virtual presentation will take place on February 25 from 12p-1p.  Mark your calendars and register here.

Presentation Description: Flood risk is a growing concern for the built environment, and navigating the rapidly changing landscape of flood regulations can be challenging for designers. The presentation will provide an overview of the recent updates in two key ASCE standards: ASCE 7-22 Supplement 2 and ASCE 24-24, which together represent a significant shift in the criteria, loads, and other requirements for flood-resistant design.

SAVE THE DATE!

This April, Atlanta will be hosting this year's NASCC Conference at the Georgia World Congress Center. SEAOG members will receive a discount code for conference registration. Additionally, there will be a pre-conference social for all SEAOG members at Five Iron Golf on Tuesday 4/21. Stay tuned for more info.

Publicity Committee Update

RECAP

On February 10, SEAOG attended STEM Day at Macedonia Elementary School. We had an incredible turnout of K-5th graders building a variety of unique paper towers. The tallest successful structure was able to hold the jar of coins an impressive 18” above the ground. It was a fantastic experience, and we’re looking forward to doing more STEM outreach this year!

Upcoming Events

Bethlehem Elementary School STEM Night
On Thursday, March 19th, SEAOG will be attending STEM Night at Bethlehem Elementary School in Barrow County from 6 to 7:30pm. We will be presenting some fun hands-on engineering activities for the kids and their parents. We would really love to have some additional volunteers for this one, so if you’re interested in participating or for more information, contact [email protected].

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

If you are interested in volunteering for any of the below activities, please contact [email protected]:
