SEAOG Virtual Presentation | Recent Updates to Flood-Resistant Design Standards
Matt Gilbertson, Senior Technical Manager at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, will be presenting on the recent updates to flood-resistant design standards in ASCE 7-22 supplement 2 and ASCE 24-24. This virtual presentation will take place on February 25 from 12p-1p. Mark your calendars and register here.
Presentation Description: Flood risk is a growing concern for the built environment, and navigating the rapidly changing landscape of flood regulations can be challenging for designers. The presentation will provide an overview of the recent updates in two key ASCE standards: ASCE 7-22 Supplement 2 and ASCE 24-24, which together represent a significant shift in the criteria, loads, and other requirements for flood-resistant design.

Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day
On Saturday, March 21, SEAOG will be sponsoring a booth at Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day in partnership with ACEC Georgia. Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day is a half-day program sponsored by the engineering community to introduce elementary and middle school-aged girls to engineering through fun projects and activities. The event will be at the Gwinnett School of Math, Science, and Technology in Lawrenceville from 8:30am to 12:30 pm. If you’re interested in helping to run the booth for all or part of the event, contact [email protected].

Smitha Middle School Career Day (Cobb County)
- Need: Presenters
- Date & Time: March 3rd, 8:30am – 12:30pm
- Grades: 6th-8th

Notes: Smitha Middle School invites professionals from all STEM fields to volunteer at their Career Day. The goal for this event is to expand students’ understanding of potential careers and the pathways and steps needed to achieve them.

Notes: Hopewell Middle is seeking volunteers to share their pathway to engineering from middle school to present day with their 8th graders. Any engineering discipline is welcome.

Notes: LaBelle Elementary is looking for volunteers to present engaging, hands-on science experiments. Anything from a simple “sink or float” for our kindergartners to engineering building projects such as barge building for our upper grades would be welcome.

- Date & Time: March 11th, 9:00am – 4:00pm
- Grades: K-12th
- Notes: In-person judging provides judges the unique opportunity to converse with student teams and ask questions about their projects. In-Person Judges typically spend 2 hours to evaluate their student inventions, depending on the number of student teams assigned and the event schedule.
APS Regional Science Olympiad (Atlanta)
- Need: Volunteers
- Date & Time: March 14th, 11:00am – 4:00pm (two hour shifts)
- Grades: K-5th
- Notes: Support Atlanta Public School Regional Science Olympiad Tournament for elementary schools on Saturday, March 14th! Volunteers are needed on the day of the event as event supervisors/support and also b
efore the event to write/design assessments.
2026 NASCC: The Steel Conference
The Structural Engineers Association of Georgia is excited to welcome the national community to Atlanta for the 2026 AISC Steel Conference (NASCC), taking place April 22–26 at the Georgia World Congress Center. As the host city, we are organizing a local SEAOG pre-conference gathering to connect our Georgia members and strengthen our professional network.
